Hello beautiful followers,
I have been meaning to update my blog at least once or twice a week, I am still not settled in a stable schedule, I’m planning on setting up my rest days as blog update days, just to keep everyone posted on what’s happening!
So 2 weeks ago, I decided to take part in DXB Fitness Champ, under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Majid bin Mohammed Al Maktoum. The first two days were going so well, I PR’d my 2k row, and matched my 1RM front squat which felt great! 3rd day was upon us, and we had to face the fact that we have to swim and run.. I am a great swimmer, but not much of a runner.. So I was quite excited to see how that would turn out.
The last 3 workouts were:
10 minute time cap:
4 rounds of 25kg weight move from the deep end of the pool to the shallow end.
and then 5 minute time cap:
8 x 25 m sprints
I left my bag in the swimming pool area, and left to get my mind in the right place, stretched out and listened to some music. When I got back, my bag had been opened and looked through, my shower cap and goggles were missing. I looked for them everywhere, and it was my heat to go so I just borrowed a friends. I buy child size cap, and my goggles are quite small and the ones I borrowed were way too big. When it got to my turn I took a deep breath, reached the bottom, pushed the weight about 5m when I swam back up to breathe, all the water from the cap and goggles was flowing into my nose and mouth and I started to choke. At that moment I started to panic. I love diving, and I am more comfortable in the water than out, but I felt claustrophobic every time I tried to breathe I’d choke on water. I got one weight out and swam back in time to dive back down, but I only had 60 seconds and decided to just try to calm myself down.
For the athletes it was either a good learning experience or the worst experience of their life.
The sprints I did okay, I was close to finishing but I was swimming with no goggles or cap which was pretty awkward but I guess next time I’m placing a lock on my bags!
The 24kg snatches were okay, I got 27 which is 27 more than what I expected. My forearms were on fire and still suffering a minor injury in my lats so I was very happy. Then came the run, which I basically strolled! 4k run for time 20 minute time cap. And I never run, a 400m warm up is hell enough for me. I love sprints, anything short and fast I’m good. But when it’s endurance, my breathing is fine it’s just my body’s response to it that’s quite ugly. But I was really happy with a 3k in 20 minutes and I have been running much more ever since.
Now that I am back to training, I’m focusing more on strength, gymnastics and endurance. Following 2 programs and training with the Goldbox team every weekend has already helped so much with my performance and team skills.
Nourishing Dubai update…
I am in the 3rd week of Nourishing Dubai plan. I am following a 3 meal plan, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Snacks are on me, I don’t usually snack but after or during workouts I just either keep myself full with a carb supplement, either Fuel 5 or Vitargo. I don’t usually take protein, though if I’m hungry at night I drink Gold Standard Casein protein.
What I’ve noticed…
I’ve noticed that I am lighter, so I’m able to move faster and better. My performance is great, I am finally sleeping 8-9 hours a night, even though my strength isn’t where it used to be, but I am 5kgs lighter and lifting probably 5% less than I did when I was 69kgs. In my first week I was feeling hungry most of the time since I am used to bigger meals. But now I feel fuller for longer, satisfied and the food is deeeeeelicious!!!
An example of my meals:
Sirloin steak or Grilled Salmon
Zoodles (zucchini noodles) with bolognese
I am following a 1,700 calorie meal plan at the moment, just to reach my ideal fat percentage and once I reach I will be able to eat more for strength and performance.
